A mother of two who sourced methamphetamine to “feed her fiends” bargained with her drug dealer for a lower price.

Cassandra Craven, 30, came to the attention of police as part of Operation Romeo Casbah targeting drugs in the Townsville area.

Cameron James Standley was the principal target of the operation who Craven sourced drugs from.

The Townsville District Court heard on July 7, 2019 Craven contacted Standley for two ounces of methamphetamine.

Standley initially quoted Craven $12,500 for the drugs but Craven said she could only afford $12,000.

Crown prosecutor Carly Hoyer said on July 10, 2019 Craven purchased 7g of methamphetamine from Standley.

“She initially arranged to purchase 3.5g although later that night she told him, while speaking in code, she only had three points left and needed more to supply to other persons,” she said.

“He delivered an additional 3.5g to her later that evening and in discussion the following morning she commented she still had fiends to feed.”

Police executed a search warrant at Craven’s address on August 1, 2019.

During the search police uncovered $565, digital scales, a spoon, unused clip seal bags and a mobile phone.

The court heard police conducted another warrant on August 21, 2019 and Craven was found to be in possession of .435g of methamphetamine and a glass pipe.

Craven pleaded guilty to eight charges including two charges of supplying dangerous drugs and possessing dangerous drugs.

Defence barrister Dane Marley said his client was a mother of two boys and her ice use ramped up due to traumatic life experiences.

“Her addiction became particularly more pronounced after the floods in 2019,” he said.

“She described her drug use at that time as an escape ultimately from the relationship that she was trying to get away from.”

Judge John Coker told Craven she had to be punished for contributed to society’s drug problem.

“As we see everyday in our news services and our newspapers and electronic media the dreadful consequences of the use by persons of drugs,” he said.

“There are lives lost everyday in this country as a result of the use of drugs and of course the use of drugs supply's from the people such as yourself.”

Craven was sentenced to 15 months’ jail with immediate parole.
