Carly and GG’s Garden Shop opens in Deeragun
An entrepreneurial young woman has started a new garden store on Townsville’s Northern Beaches with a neighbourly feel.

A community garden store on Townsville’s Northern Beaches, is giving a young woman the chance to make the world a brighter place.
Carly Batten, 20, spends her weekends selling flowers, plants, herbs and pots at her store Carly and GG’s Garden Shop at the front of her Deeragun home.
Her mum Traci said the shop was a way of keeping Carly in the workforce after she lost her job at the post office when it sold in May this year.

“Carly doesn’t have a lot of speech, as she has Down syndrome,” Traci said.
The shop has been operating for a month now and has a growing customer base.
“She cooks cakes, everyone gets a little cake when they purchase something,” Traci said.
“It’s been really well supported
“(The shop) has something a little different, not your everyday plants.”
Satisfied customer Arabella Robinson said Carly and GG’s Garden Shop was a “lovely business start-up”.
“We are lucky to have such a beautiful community out here. I did purchase some beautiful spring flowers and received a freshly baked treat to take with me,” she said.
Traci said Carly developed an interest in gardening when at school.
“At St Anthony’s she did a lot of sewing and gardening,” she said.
Traci said Carly promoted the store by doing letterbox drops, with the shop opening each Saturday between 8am to 12pm. Visit the Carly and GG’s Garden Shop Facebook page.
