An off-duty officer from Ayr has helped arrest a man who has allegedly been on the run for six months.

Ayr Constable Nicholas Anderson-King was shopping at Domain Central when he spotted Noel Beau King, a man police have been on the hunt for since March.

Constable Anderson-King got in contact with Townsville police, with Senior Constable Angus Polson and his partner getting the call to affect the arrest.

“We attended that location and subsequently arrested the male person,” Sen constable Polson said.

“He was a target of current operation Sierra Silhouette.

“The use of that off duty officer came in really handy and we were able to make the arrest.

“Off duty police and police that are currently working have a heightened level of vigilance. Chasing that person for a period of time ingrains that person’s description in their mind and they’ve acted. They did an awesome job.”

Constable Anderson-King had “eyes on the male person” as he waited for officers to arrive.

“I just called in the job and they came and arrested a known local wanted person from the Burdekin,” Constable Anderson-King said.

Constable Anderson-King said he had seen the alleged offender before and it was the first time he had been in that sort of situation.

King was arrested for multiple charges including one count of stealing, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company and multiple traffic offences.

A 29-year-old female was also arrested on a fail to appear warrant.

Senior Constable Polson said the arrest went smoothly due to training exercises which replicate similar situations.

“Every job we go to is dynamic. Something in a public environment like that you’ve really got to be mindful of foot traffic, vehicle traffic, parking, all that sort of stuff.

“Because there was a vehicle involved the vehicle had to be put in a position where it was immobilised so he couldn’t escape by vehicle.”

King appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court yesterday and his case was adjourned until October 27.

He was remanded in custody.

The 29-year-old female is also set to front court in October.

Ayr Police acting Officer in Charge Steve Wilson said it was a reminder “anywhere any time” did not just apply to random breath tests.

“This is a classic example of the excellent work police do, even when not on duty,” he said.

Acting Sen-Sgt Wilson urged anyone who thought they may be wanted for any outstanding matters to attend their local police station and sort it out.

“They may be more pleasantly surprised with the outcome than they think, rather than having to look over their shoulder all the time and make matters possibly worse in the long run.”
