A truck fire on the Burdekin Bridge, near Home Hill, has prompted the closure of the Bruce Highway in both directions on Thursday morning.
Queensland Police posted a warning for motorists on social media at 5.10am saying, “Bruce Highway south of Ayr closed in both directions at the Burdekin River Bridge while emergency crews attend to a truck fire”.
A QPS spokeswoman said no one was injured in the incident.
According to a Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman, the incident was first reported at 4.51am, with two of their crews encountering a truck and trailer well involved with flames by the time they arrived.
By 5.35am, they had knocked down the majority of the fire and were dampening down the smouldering vehicle.
Queensland Traffic’s camera positioned on the north side of the bridge captured a lengthy queue of traffic snaking away from the bridge and a sign saying “expect delays”.
QPS confirmed that the bridge reopened to traffic in both directions at 8.20am.
