AN inspirational film series featuring a Townsville teenager is throwing stereotypes out the window as it documents the lives of Australians living fearlessly with disability.

With Townsville’s iconic Strand and tropical islands as her backdrop, Chelseann Osborne shows how she sails through life with autism and has found her strength by being on the water.

Sailing has never been just an outlet for the 19-year-old, she found her social network and uncovered an unshakeable determination that has propelled her to victory time and again, including gold and silver at the 2018 Special Olympics National Games.

The film premiered on the International Day of People with Disability 2020 yesterday. The second season of Fearless is a collection of six short films that shine a spotlight on people living boldly with disability.

Chelseann said she hoped the film series would change any assumptions people may have of disabilities.

“I hope I can help people with a disability to just have a go and not sit on the sidelines,” she said.

“My disability is predominantly in the learning of things so fortunately for me now I have a good support network of family and coaches that know how to work with my disability. When I first started it was a lot harder but that will be the same for anyone.”

In addition to working part time, and studying sports and health science at university, Chelseann has begun training for international events.

“I’m so competitive on the water,” she said.
