$60.5 million Weststate Private Hospital project reveals new pics and techology plans

Fresh images have been released of Townsville’s new $60m private hospital, along with insights into the world-leading technology they plan to use.

Health insurance premiums could drop due to new government deal

STATE-of-the-art technology will be adopted by Townsville’s $60.5 million Weststate Private Hospital project, as its owners aspire to create a point of difference from their competitors.

Presently under construction in West End, the new five-storey hospital, which features four operating theatres and 50 day and overnight beds, is due to complete by April 2023, and will welcome its first patients by May 2023.

After a “real struggle” to get going, Weststate Private Hospital chair David Kippin said it was fantastic to see construction underway towards delivering Townsville some choice in the private health market.

He said their hospital will be fully digitised, without paperwork, instead relying on computer tablets and monitors positioned next to each bed, operating a high tech program called Rauland’s Concentric Care platform.

Not only does the program make life easier for patients to access their medical information, call a nurse, consult with their surgeon, order their food, and operate the entertainment system, but it will also make life easier for the medical staff.

“The monitor will have discretionary access so that surgeons can access certain information, the patient can access certain information, even nurses will be able to get that information directly off the monitor at the bedside rather than have a paper sheet in a clipboard at the end of the bed,” Mr Kippin said.

Maintaining confidentiality was a key priority, with only those delegated, able to access certain data.

“They’ll be able to talk directly to the nurse and tell the nurse what the problem is, rather than push a button and wait for the nurse to come.

“It improves that efficiency and it also improves the health outcomes, (especially) if a patient is suffering something quite serious.”

In addition to patients accessing all of the television stations on their device, he said they would be able to order meal upgrades if they were craving a quality steak or chicken dish.

In addition to the bedside devices, Mr Kippin said they were looking to incorporate other technological innovations into the hospital, like world-class infection control and sterile airspace.

Rauland Australia Chief Executive Officer Cameron Burt said Weststate Private was leading the way in Queensland by harnessing the power of an end to end, connected healthcare platform to deliver a superior patient care experience.

By adopting Rauland’s technology, Weststate Private Hospital Founder and Director Kaushik Hazratwala said adopting a fully integrated systems approach would deliver a high-level clinician and patient experience at the point of care.

“Key clinical performance indicators will be measurable, allowing superior service to be recognised. The overall experience for nurses, surgeons and patients will be enhanced with access to timely data. Accountability via data analysis is critical to making informed care decisions,” Dr Hazratwala said.
