The Townsville and Magnetic Island community have rallied together in a bid to track down the vandals who destroyed the iconic Radical Bay piano, once again.

The piano was replaced by Star 106.3’s Crystal Vas and Brady Ellis in July after the one Magnetic Island chippie Hayden Clarke delivered was damaged by the elements.

Ms Vas was alerted to the destruction at the weekend.

“(The piano is) just a pile of ashes in a hole on the beautiful Radical Bay,” she said.

“When it first happened people assumed it was tourists, now it’s happened a few times there’s rumours it might be disgruntled residents.”

News of the destruction sparked a call out to track down the culprits.

Councillor Les Walker pledged $200 for information leading to the conviction of the vandals.

Cr Walker blasted the vandals on the airwaves of the Crystal and Brady show this morning.

“Here were are doing it all over again (replacing the piano). Now some fool, or maybe others, more than just one, have burned it to the ground. It’s so senseless,” he said.

The reward has since increased to $1250 as local businesses got behind the cause.

“Obviously (the piano) is something people really want,” Ms Vas said.

Mr Clarke replaced the piano, which has starred in thousands of Instagram snaps and holiday photos, last year after it was again burned to the ground.

He had plans of building a shelter to protect the piano overlooking the ocean but the treacherous road leading to the bay thwarted his plans.
