THE past 12 months have been a life-changing experience, for a young Townsville woman after she was given a shock rare cancer diagnosis.
Madison Brown, 23, was diagnosed in 2019 with adenocarcinoma, an aggressive cervical cancer suffered by 1 in 1,250,000 women. After the diagnosis, she endured three surgeries, 25 sessions of radiation and five sessions of chemotherapy.
“Some days were awesome, but some days I would have to live off Zooper Doopers because I couldn’t even drink water,” she said.

While recovering from chemotherapy, Ms Brown adopted nine-month-old border collie Harley and credits her furbaby for getting her through the dark days.
“He is such a fun little thing and he is straight up the best thing and I am more at ease with him because he came at the perfect time in my life.”
Ms Brown, who has just bought her first home and is loving working in the childcare industry, said she feels like 2021 is “a fresh new beginning”.
