Townsville MP Adam Baillie says he doesn’t “know how to slow down” as he intends using the Christmas break to better establish his electoral office and to recruit staffers.

The new LNP politician has had an eventful period of almost two months alongside his Townsville based parliamentary colleagues Janelle Poole (Mundingburra) and Natalie Marr (Thuringowa), as they established themselves in the Queensland parliament and helped vote in youth crime laws.

They have so far had six parliamentary days, including their swearing in ceremony, several of which have ended late into the night, and the last session in which they voted in Making Queensland Safer Laws.

And within the last week he has travelled with Premier David Crisafulli to Palm Island, and examined local police resources alongside Police Minister Dan Purdie.

With parliament ended for the year and not being reinstated until February, Mr Baillie said he would use the transition to attend community events and to set up his Flinders St office, which was the same site as his Labor predecessor Scott Stewart.

“I would liken it to starting up a new business again,” Mr Baillie said.

“You need to get the phones working, the email working, the business card, all those basic things.

“We’re just going through that same process again, so we’re getting well practised at it.

“We’ll be working in the background trying to make sure that when everyone starts coming back from their holidays over the Christmas-New Years period, we’re fully functional.

“We’ll be working hard to make sure that we’re ready to go and we’ll still be out in the community in the meantime, listening to Queenslanders, listening to Townsvillians and being out in the community.”

As for Making Queensland Safer Laws, Mr Baillie said “this is just the first step” and that future efforts would examine rehabilitation measures, to separate youth criminals from the negative influences that make them worse.
