Offering a broad range of toys including some never seen before in North Queensland, Totally Toys has completed the missing piece in its regional expansion after opening in Townsville.
With its motto “Play all day”, family-owned business Totally Toys was founded in Rockhampton eight years ago, before expanding to Mackay, Cairns, and now at Townsville’s Fairfield & Co Centre.
The independent retailer stocks a diverse inventory, from classic favourites like Lego, Barbie and Hot Wheels, to the latest and on-trend toys, including electric ride-ons, Crazy Skates, and Sluban Blocks military building blocks.
Totally Toys co-owner Dennis Boyce said they worked with major toy brands across Australia, including local suppliers, in addition to importing toys from China, US, Mexico, and Europe.
“We’ve been trying to bring a store to Townsville for the last five years. Geographically it made sense to have a store there to link our stores so we can share stock,” Mr Boyce said.
“We do 24V ride-on cars with parental controls, every sort of doll and big plush teddy bears … Pink Poppy children’s jewellery … right down to your $2 bouncing balls.
“We’ve tried to provide a massive range of things that people haven’t seen before (and) we’re looking for the next thing that’s hot to hit.”
Mr Boyce welcome an estimated 1500 visitors to the store’s June 1 grand opening, who marvelled at the bright colour scheme, wide aisles for prams, a giant Bumble Bee Transformer print sourced from Hasbro USA, and a custom-made LEGO mural of Townsville – made in consultation with LEGO Denmark.
“We put in a pick and mix lolly bar. It has 92 varieties of different candies and lollies and also offer a trampoline brand called Vuly, that wouldn’t have been in any toy retailers in Townsville.
“They are the best trampolines on the market, their quality is fantastic, and they’re Australian owned. ”
He said the business had employed 12 staff and four juniors were about to be hired.
Attracted to the “really tidy suburb” of Idalia, situated within Townsville’s growth corridor, Mr Boyce signed a 10 year lease with Fairfield & Co.
Geon’s head of marketing and residential leasing Anita Thompson said Totally Toys appreciated the centre’s strategic location within a prominent “retail node”, surrounded by strong retail operators.
“This prime positioning, combined with the residential growth in the catchment area, made Fairfield & Co the logical choice for Totally Toys to establish their new operation,” Ms Thompson said.
“The addition of Totally Toys to Fairfield & Co enhances and complements our centre mix. It will attract new customers seeking a diverse retail experience.
“Coupled with the recent inclusion of Rivers, our centre continues to grow and evolve, offering a unique shopping destination for the community.”
