Torquay man Adam Bray faces court on attempted murder charge

Victoria Police have provided an update on an officer recovering after he was allegedly stabbed during a welfare check in Torquay.

A Torquay man accused of attempting to murder a police officer has been identified.

Adam Bray allegedly stabbed a police officer multiple times during a standard welfare check at his Golden Beach Way home about 4.30pm on Monday.

Police said two officers were at the home when the alleged incident occurred.

“Upon arrival, a 49-year-old man allegedly rushed at police officers with a knife,” a spokeswoman said.

“Police deployed a taser and OC spray however one member was stabbed a number of times.”

The male policeman, who has not been identified, allegedly sustained serious injuries and as of Tuesday afternoon remained at Geelong hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Bray, 49, was arrested at the scene and later charged with attempted murder and assaulting an emergency services worker while on duty.

He was led into the remand at the Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Jonathan Klestadt for a hearing.

His defence lawyer, Shelley Buchecker, did not make an application for bail.

Mr Klestadt remanded Mr Bray in custody.

He is expected to next front court on February 28.
