WELL that escalated quickly.
WELL that escalated quickly.
Blink and you would have missed it but the Cairns Taipans have quickly claimed outright position in the league bomb shelter.
The Snakes have shown great signs, and are playing an attractive style of basketball, but this up and about fun system has resulted in just the one win from five matches.
Three of the losses have been at home, which is a serious problem.
Because one thing the Orange Army are used to is the team handling its business at home.
Melo Trimble has been a flat-out star and even showed glimpses of defensive intent last week against Melbourne.
But, it was point guard counterpart Casper Ware who had the last laugh as his injury-hit Melbourne United team snuck out of the Far North with a win.
The Snake that has been most under fire is out-of-form import Devon Hall.
I refuse to bash him until I can actually assess what he is.
He hasn’t shown to be a slasher, a great athlete, rebounder and his jump shot is currently broken.
From all reports he is a three and defence guy, but I’m sure Cairns fans would just settle for the “three” part of his promised game right now.
He has the perfect opportunity to right the wrong this weekend as the Taipans enter their most crucial trip of the season.
It all starts tonight across the ditch against the Breakers.
This is scripted for an unsung hero, who will step up for the mighty Taipans?
Two wins here would see Cairns firmly back in the mix, but a pair of losses would be very close to a killer blow for the men in Orange, and possibly the end of Devon’s “Hall Pass”.
