Tasmanian wife and mother Suki Paddington continues the battle against ovarian cancer for her mother, this time taking the campaign to the world stage with Danish designer Georg Jensen.
Suki has been fighting for better recognition and research funding for ovarian cancer ever since she lost her mother Margy in 2023 to advanced-stage ovarian cancer.
Suki began her fundraising efforts earlier this year as part of Hobart’s Mother’s Day Classic.
Her continued work has seen her recognised as an ambassador for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) who then suggested Suki for the face of Danish silversmith’s Georg Jensen’s OCRF campaign.
“I was contacted by the team at Georg Jensen who came and did this fantastic shoot and video with me, which involved a lot of tears,” Suki said.
“But on haring my story, they decided they wanted me to be the face of the 2024 campaign with my son Kai and husband Kevin.”
Suki is honoured to share the campaign with her husband and son, stating that men’s role in advocating for women’s health is equally important.
“Their support, it’s just showing that women’s health, in particularly ovarian cancer, is not just a woman’s issue,” she said.
“It does affect the men in our lives and men play a big role in understanding and advocating for early detection and research.
“They’ve got sisters, wives, daughters, mothers, cousins, friends and they can all be affected.”
Georg Jensen is marking 10 years of supporting the OCRF through their campaign, this year launching the ‘forget-me-knot’ pendant necklace.
A portion of the necklace’s sales go to OCRF, with Suki hoping it will mean the development of an early detection test.
“One women dies every eight hours from ovarian cancer, and yet we still don’t have an early detection test,” she said.
“With more funding into research, we can change the statistics of this deadly disease.”
OCRF CEO Robin Penty said the organisation was thrilled to celebrate a decade of funding partnerships that had provided a total of $500,000.
“This year’s Forget-Me-Knot pendant honours the gorgeous Suki Paddington and
her beloved mother Margy’s story, celebrating their eternal love and bond,” she said.
“Funds raised from this beautiful pendant will fund vital ovarian cancer research to help us better detect, treat and prevent ovarian cancer.
“With the support of Georg Jensen and funding at large, we can improve the outcomes for all ovarian cancer patients.”
