Tassie duo to bring quirky and chaotic travel series to TikTok

A pair of Tasmanian starlets are bringing an all-new travel series to TikTok, ticking off all the things they never did while living here.

A TASMANIAN duo are bringing a quirky and chaotic travel series to TikTok as they explore their island home like never before.

The TravelTok Series, Bad Locals, follows two starlets Ella Watkins and Naarah as they tick off all the things they never did while living in Tasmania, including abseiling down Cradle Mountain, ghost hunting in Willow Court and working on dairy farms.

Well-known and hidden gems will be uncovered throughout the ten episode series – each just a minute in length – from the unique perspective of two young women with diverse voices.

Naarah, an Indigneous Australian actor and musician known for her upcoming role in Amazon Prime’s new Tasmania-set TV program Deadloch, said the series aims to amplify First Nation voices.

“We want to change the conversation and create an open and accessible conversation around indigenous culture,” she said.

“We want to talk about words – using kunanyi instead of Mount Wellington – and the meaning and stories behind them.

“We will also be working closely in cultural consultation with palawa screen company kutikina.”

Full time content creator, published author and aspiring director Ella is proudly queer and autistic.

“Autism is a new space that people are starting to talk about more and understand more,” Naarah said.

“Together with our different stories, this fast-paced, bubbly and comedic series will show our unique perspective on the world.”

The duo grew up together in and around Hobart before pursuing pathways and big dreams internationally.

“After working internationally and going to all these new and exciting places, we found ourselves wanting to go back home,” Naarah said.

“We hope the series helps Tasmanian tourism, especially post-pandemic.

“We want more people to know about this special area of the world, there’s so much to do and see.”

The series will be filmed in late January and posted over a two-week release in early to mid-2023.

It has so far gained thousands in sponsorship from Screen Tasmania and Tourism Tasmania.
