Tasmania’s tipples ranked some of the best Australian wineries, narrowly missing out on a top 10 place in favour of the top winemaking regions like the Hunter and Yarra Valleys.

Highly celebrated Northern Tasmanian sparkling wine maker House of Arras placed 12 on Australia’s Top 100 wineries list by Halliday Wine Companion and Sense of Taste.

Also making the top 20 was Tolpuddle Vineyard in Richmond, securing 18th on the list.

Southern Tasmanian wine makers Pooley, at Richmond made the 22nd spot.

Chatto in the Huon Valley sat at number 48 and Stefano Lubiana at Granton made number 58.

Bridport’s Delamere Vineyards made it at number 81 out of the top 100.

NSW premier wine region the Hunter Valley dominated the list with Tyrell’s Wine taking out the top spot, followed closely by Giant Steps from the Victorian Yarra Valley region.

Halliday Tasting team member Marcus Ellis said these Australian makers “hold their own on the world stage”.

“These are wineries that excel in tough years and soar in great ones. They are makers that never settle for good, constantly micro-calibrating to more lucidly express grape, site and season,” Mr Ellis said.

“These are names that are not just synonymous with peerless quality, but also striking character and individuality.”
