A fire has spread through an Eastern Shore veterinary clinic in the early morning of Tuesday, with staff from the hospital sharing that their “hearts are broken” by the damage.

The Tasmania Fire Service said crews from Clarence and Hobart were called to a fire at the Tasmanian Veterinary Hospitals (TVH) Bellerive clinic at around 4am Tuesday, with the fire already taken hold of the building on Clarence Street.

Staff at TVH were quick to share the news with their patients on their Facebook page, confirming that no animals were inside the facility at the time of the fire.

Patients with appointments at the Bellerive Clinic have been redirected to the TVH’s Sorell and Kingston clinics.

“Overnight there was an incident at our Bellerive Hospital and our building sustained extensive damage due to an internal fire,” TVH staff shared.

“Due to this, our servers are down and we are unable to contact our clients.

“For anyone who has an appointment at our Bellerive Hospital this week, if you can please contact our Sorell and Kingston hospital, we will help as best we can.

“We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during this really hard time for our TVH family.

“We will keep you updated as we know more.

“No animals were in the facility at the time thank goodness, but our hearts are broken.”

TFS fire investigators are currently at the Bellerive clinic, with an update on the cause of the fire expected to be provided by early afternoon Tuesday.

The Bellerive clinic last year celebrated its 40th anniversary and had recently undergone a renovation.
