Tasmanian police constable Cassandra Joy Richardson to learn fate after road crash which killed Teresa and Jim Brown

A Tasmania Police constable accused of causing the road deaths of a mother and son by negligent driving made another appearance in a Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

A Tasmania Police constable accused of causing the road deaths of a mother and sonby negligent driving made another appearance in a Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Cassandra Joy Richardson, 26, appeared before Magistrate Andrew McKee, after pleading not guilty to a slew of charges relating to a crash that claimed the lives of Teresa and Jim Brown near Richmond on May 10 in 2022.

Ms Richardson, who was off-duty at the time of the crash, was charged with two counts of causing death by negligent driving, one count of driving without due care and attention, one count of driving while disqualified and two counts of contravening vehicle standards.

On Tuesday, Ms Richardson appeared in court for a three-hour hearing before Magistrate McKee.

At the conclusion of the hearing, Mr McKee adjourned the matter until 7 June for decision.

According to court documents, the crash occurred at Brinktop Road, Penna, near Richmond.

The Mercury has previously reported the crash involved three cars, with Teresa Brown, aged in her 50s, and Jim Brown, 16, passing away at the scene.
