Search commenced for missing bushwalker in remote southwest
UPDATE, 11.58am: Police have confirmed that the 28-year-old overdue bushwalker in the state’s southwest was safely located at Pine Lake a short time ago.
Police are also renewing calls for bushwalking safety, including not walking alone, ensure carrying a sufficient warm clothing and food, and emergency communication devices like a two-way messaging emergency device is preferred.
10.31am: A search has begun for a bushwalker missing in the state’s rugged southwest.
The 28-year-old man became had separated from his bushwalking colleague in the Farmhouse Creek area.
Police were contacted about 8 o’clock on Saturday morning and the Westpac rescue helicopter has been deployed to the area.
A police spokesman said the man was last seen about 9am on Friday on the Eastern Arthur Range Traverse near the Lake Sydney Track junction.
The man is believed to be an experienced bushwalker but was not carrying a personal locator beacon, the spokesman said.

Police investigate “suspicious death” on Brooker Highway
April 19, 8am: Police are investigating a “suspicious death” in Montrose early on Saturday, with a person found deceased lying near a major road.
Police remain on the scene of the road incident near the south bound lanes of the Brooker Highway in the vicinity of the Montrose Bay High School where a person was found lying on the road by patrolling officers at about 4am.
Police stated first responders attempted to provide CPR, but the person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police including officers from CIB, Forensics and Uniform remain on the scene and are conducting examinations.
Roads are closed while the investigation takes place, including all access to the Montrose Foreshore via Foreshore Road, the Brooker Highway from Strathaven Road area to all southbound traffic and all south bound traffic on the Brooker Highway north of Montrose Bay School which is being diverted via Main Road
Police are in place for diversions.

Elderly pedestrian struck by vehicle dies after hospital battle
10.45am: An elderly man struck by a vehicle in Hobart’s CBD 10 days ago has died after battling critical injuries in hospital.
The 75-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Davey St near Hunter St, just down from the lights, around 8pm on April 8.
The man had been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition, with police on Friday confirming he had since passed away.
Police said at the time of the incident the man was crossing the road with a 73-year-old woman when the incident occurred. The woman had not been physically injured but was precautionarily taken to hospital at that time, officers said.
A report is expected to be prepared for the Coroner.
Fatal crash claims woman’s life, seriously injures man
April 18, 8am: A second fatal crash in less than 24-hours on Tasmanian roads has claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman.
Tasmania Police said a two vehicle crash on Johnston Rd, St Leonards in the state’s north killed the woman and left a 32-year-old man fighting for his life.
This comes after a 48-year-old rider died in a collision between a motorcycle and car at Glenorchy on Thursday morning.
Emergency services responded to the incident between a Mazda sedan and Subaru wagon about 5.20pm last night.
Police said the woman was the driver and the was a passenger of the Mazda. The woman driving the Subaru was not physically injured, police confirmed.
“Upon police arrival, CPR was provided to the woman however sadly, she died at the scene,” police said.
Officers said the man was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.
Police are calling for witnesses to come forward, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers.
A report is expected to be prepared for the Coroner.
Teenager dies in hospital days after moped crash
April 17, 3.50pm: A teenager has died after suffering critical injuries from a moped crash at Austins Ferry last week.
Police confirmed the 13-year-old boy had been a pillion passenger on a moped that crashed on Main Rd on April 11.
The boy had been taken to hospital in a critical condition, police said.
Inspector Jason Klug said: “To the teenagers in our community who are feeling the loss of their friend deeply, I encourage you to support each other and stay safe.”
A report is set to be prepared for the coroner.
