Stunning new official portraits of Princess Mary of Denmark have been released ahead of her 50th birthday.
The Tassie-born princess, who turns 50 on February 5, wore a shimmering blue gown by Danish designer Lasse Spangelberg to mark the occasion.
She completed her ensemble with the Queen Ingrid Ruby parure, a historic Danish ruby and diamond jewellery set.
The jewels, which include a tiara, necklace, earrings, bracelet, brooches, hair clips and a ring, date back to the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte in France and came to the Danish royal family in 1869.
The mother-of-four was joined her husband, Crown Prince Frederik for the portraits, taken by Danish photographer Hasse Nielsen who has previously worked for Vogue.
The images were released on Monday on Instagram alongside a statement detailing the royals’ plans for the Crown Princess’ birthday.
“On the occasion of Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess’ 50th birthday on Saturday, new official gala portraits of the Crown Prince Couple have been taken,” the statement read.
The statement revealed that Princess Mary’s birthday will be marked with a number of events — including exhibitions at both Koldinghus and Frederiksborg Castle — as well as the opening of the Crown Princess Mary Centre at the University of Copenhagen.
