A new exhibition has opened up in an unlikely place – Mona’s first female toilets.
A moody Picasso has been hung above the bathroom’s basin with artist and curator Kirsha Kaechele taking to Instagram to show off the update on Monday afternoon.
“A new exhibition at Mona … Just for ladies,” the post said.
“ … the Ladies Lounge had to close thanks to a lawsuit brought on by a man. And I just didn’t know what to do with all those Picassos.”
This comes after a tribunal hearing ordered the female-only ‘Ladies Lounge’ had to allow men.
The order was issued in April by the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal – after New South Wales resident Jason Lau lodged a discrimination complaint when he was blocked from entering the room designed by Kirsha Kaechele.
It's the museum’s first female toilets, previously having only unisex bathrooms at the venue.
Ms Kaechele reiterated on Instagram that the lounge would open again as a church, school, boutique glamping accommodations, facilities that fell under the exclusions of legislation.
“ … but in the meantime, enjoy! (ladies) (that applies to ALL ladies, you know when you are and when you are you’re welcome.)”
