The iconic Three Capes Track will be closed for two weeks for Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Services to conduct planned burns and annual maintenance.
The track along with a section of Mill Creek Campground at Fortescue Bay will be shut off to visitors between April 28 to May 11.
It’s part of a statewide fuel reduction program conducted by PWS to reduce the risk of bushfire and protect natural and cultural sites across the Tasman National Park.
A department spokesperson said the planned burns were scheduled in autumn when conditions were more stable and predictable.
The closure extends to Three Capes Track, Old Cape Pillar Track (inland route to Cape Pillar), Bare Knoll Campground, Cape Hauy Track, and a section of Mill Creek campground at Fortescue Bay.
The areas are set to remain closed after the burn until an assessment declares the areas safe to open.
The Fortescue Bay boat ramp will remain open during this time.
Other tracks will remain accessible within Tasman National Park during this time, including Waterfall Bay Track, Tasman Coastal Trail, Crescent Bay – Mount Brown Track, Cape Raoul Track, Shipstern Bluff Track and Tunnel Bay Track.
