Tasmanian skipper Belle Moorfield never thought she would be on national television.
But this year — after giving up on dating apps and the insular Tasmanian dating scene — she decided to put herself out there by applying for Channel 7s Farmer Wants a Wife.
“In this day and age dating is really hard,” Ms Moorfield said.
“You might as well put yourself out there and give anything a go.”
The 26-year-old was selected to join the show as a latecomer for farmer Dustin.
Ms Moorfield was born near Latrobe in the state’s north and went to Sassafras Primary School before moving to Hobart at the age of six.
Now, she is a tourism boat skipper based in Tasmania.
“I’m definitely not a city person,” she said.
“I was just working up in Darwin on big cargo vessels.
“You go to sea for a month and it was very isolating, it’s weirdly similar to farm life.
“You have all this space around you and you are in this really isolated situation.
“But that’s my comfort zone I think.”
Entering the show as a latecomer was “difficult” but made easier with her farmer’s support.
She said the support of Dustin, 26, from Condobolin NSW, all of the other girls on the show, and the production crew made her first television appearance “wonderful”.
“Bizarre but wonderful,” Ms Moorfield said.
She said she was willing to move away from Tasmania for love.
“I’d go anywhere for love,” she said.
“It’s not the place, it’s the people you are with.”
Farmer Wants A Wife airs on Channel 7 and 7plus.
