Man pushes piano up kunanyi/Mt Wellington for Point to Pinnacle
Getting to the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington is a challenge for most people, but try doing it while pushing a 240kg piano. Here’s why Kelvin Smith did exactly that.

With one last shove to reach the pinnacle, Hobart’s piano man has completed the “vivid metaphor” of pushing his 240kg piano to the top of kunanyi.
Kelvin Smith from A Piano of Tasmania said the crowd at the top clapped as he and his team pushed through to the finish line.
“I’m feeling elation- very, very tired and a lot of emotion I’m not sure I can label them all,” Mr Smith said.
He reached the top of Mount Wellington in 21 hours and 23 minutes on Sunday morning.
His goal was to reach the 1271 metre summit in under 24 hours while raising money for suicide awareness charity Speak up Stay ChatTY.
Mr Smith raised more than a quarter of his fundraising goal with $14,587 raised on Sunday morning.
He said he could never have reached the top without the support of his team.
“They pulled me back from the brink.”
He started the epic journey at midday on Saturday setting off from Mures on Hobart’s waterfront.
Mr Smith pushed the piano overnight, with a much needed rest stop at the Springs cabin at around 1am.
He said he had difficulties in two or three places on the way up, starting before Stickland Falls.
He still reached the top of Kunanyi at 9.21am on Sunday morning with his support crew.
On Saturday before starting his ascent, Mr Smith said he was looking forward to having a long rest after 6 hard months of training.
