Launceston homes listed for $6000 as Foo Fighters gig sparks price surge
Tickets to their only Australian tour aren’t even on sale yet, but that hasn’t stopped accommodation prices for next month’s Foo Fighters gig skyrocketing to eye-watering prices.
Tickets to their only Australian tour aren’t even on sale yet, but that hasn’t stopped accommodation prices for next month’s Foo Fighters gig skyrocketing to eye-watering prices.
Earlier this week, legendary rockers Foo Fighters announced they’d be performing a one-off Aussie concert at UTAS Stadium in Launceston.
Local tourism operators were thrilled the exclusive show would undoubtedly attract some visits from mainland fans, with Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood planning some extra local events to encourage visitors to spend more than a night in the northern city.
“I would recommend absolutely if you’re looking at tickets, look at accommodation, do not wait until last minute,” he said on Wednesday.
But it might already be too late for most people, with the majority of hotels in the city sold out.
Some Launceston residents seem to be taking advantage of the hopeful influx of mainland or southern guests, with dozens of homes appearing on Booking.com for the first time.
And the first-time stays don’t come cheap, with one house in East Launceston charging $6137 for two nights.
While it’s advertised as “sleeps 11”, even between 11 people it’s a hefty $558 each for two nights.
A three-bedroom apartment in the CBD sleeping six is listed for $4168 for the two nights, with no option to stay just the one night of the concert.
Two nights at the same property a week later is 60% cheaper.
