A learner driver charged with the driving death of a man on a main Huonville thoroughfare has been told he must enter pleas at his next court date.

Joshua Corin Vaughan recently appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Michael Daly at Hobart Magistrates Court.

Vaughan, 27, is facing three charges including negligent driving causing death, fail to give way to a pedestrian when entering a road from a road-related area, and learner driver while unaccompanied.

Each of the charges stem from November 28, 2022.

Court documents state the particulars of the negligent driving charge were such that he failed to keep a proper lookout, and failed to give way to Errol Adrian Fletcher, a pedestrian.

In the documents, it is alleged that Vaughan entered Main St from a “road related area”, namely the BP Service Station, and failed to give way to Mr Fletcher, who was on that road-related area.

It is further alleged that at the time of the incident, Vaughan, a learner driver, was driving unaccompanied.

In court his lawyer asked that Mr Daly adjourn without Vaughan entering a plea.

Mr Daly told Vaughan that at his next court date he would have to enter a plea to his charges.

Vaughan will next appear in court in early July.
