Tasmania’s sole Tesla dealership has been plastered with graffiti branding the company’s co-founder and CEO, Elon Musk, as a “Nazi”.
The graffiti has since been painted over and a Tesla spokesperson said the company had no comment.
Grassroots Action Network Tasmania (GRANT) has shared images of the vandalism on social media.
The pictures show an image of Musk with a Hitler moustache and the words ‘Heil Tesla’ posted over the entrance to the Derwent Park dealership, as well as phrases such as ‘Musk is a Nazi’, ‘Down with DOGE’, and ‘Do you really want to drive a swasticar?’
Musk has faced significant worldwide backlash since being appointed as a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump and head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has since fired thousands of public servants.
The controversial billionaire provoked widespread outrage when he appeared to perform a Nazi salute as he addressed the crowd at President Trump’s inauguration in January.
Musk has denied making the salute, telling popular podcast host Joe Rogan this month that he is “not a Nazi” and suggestions that he was were “ridiculous”.
In a post on Instagram on Sunday, GRANT said the graffiti at the Tesla outlet on the Brooker Highway had been “spotted honouring [Tesla’s] fascist in chief”.
“To [Tesla drivers], we say that there’s never been a better time to ditch your swasticar and swap it for a Nissan Leaf, or even better yet a GreenCard, as we all know that well-funded (free) public transport is the true key to reducing transport emissions,” the post said.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson said police had not received any reports about the Tesla graffiti incident.
