While Dark Mofo will be in a deep slumber during the winter solstice, festival organisers have dropped events to make the season lively, including the announcement of an international act.
New Zealand artist Marlon Williams has collaborated with the likes of Lorde, Florence + the Machine and Bruce Springsteen and will return to Hobart for the second year in a row to perform in his show An Evening with Marlon Williams.
The solo performer, who has released ten studio albums, has previously said Dark Mofo is his favourite festival.
“There’s really nothing else in the world like it,” Williams told The Mercury last year.
Award-winning Australian rapper and singer Genesis Owusu will also be performing at the Odeon Theatre on the first weekend of Dark Mofo’s Winter Feast.
Winter Feast will be held over two weeks at Princes Wharf 1, from Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 June, and again from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 in June.
As well as celebrating the best of Tasmanian food and drink, will include the appearance of a surprise international guest chef.
On the longest night of the year, the Nude Solstice Swim will take place on Long Beach at sunrise on June 21, with an increased capacity.
“While the festival is at rest until 2025, our commitment to Winter in Tasmania is unwavering,” Dark Mofo Artistic Director Chris Twite previously said.
“This June we will bring a taste of Dark Mofo’s music and spectacle to the depths of Tassie’s winter with 8 nights of fire and indulgence for a very special Winter Feast.
“For those that crave the dancefloors of Dark Mofo, this winter we have promised a rebirth of Night Shift – an all night party set to take over Altar and High Altar, two incendiary nights at the Odeon with the haunting Marlon Williams and the electrifying Genesis Owusu. We have a few more surprises to be revealed soon.”
