Rowing champion and well-known endurance athlete Georgia Nesbitt remains in hospital following a serious bicycle crash in Hobart on Friday night.
Competing in a criterium race at Tolosa Park, the 30-year-old Tasmanian is believed to have been seriously injured when she fell from her bike during a round-three race of the Tolosa Friday Crits.
In a message posted on popular cycling app Strava on Saturday, the Tassie Torque Cycling Club passed on its best wishes for the popular athlete.
The message stated that a club member had spoken to Nesbitt’s mother who revealed her daughter was in hospital in a stable condition and in a medically induced coma.
“You may have heard that our good friend and awesome rider Georgia had a serious accident at the crit last night,” the post said.
“If you are the praying type or similar, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”
Hobart Wheelers Dirt Devils Cycling Club president Justin McMullen confirmed an athlete had been injured on Friday night at the event but that the cause of the single athlete crash was yet to be determined.
McMullen would not confirm the identity of the injured athlete but revealed they had been taken to hospital in an ambulance following the crash on Friday night.
Nesbitt is an eight-time Australian rowing champion and multiple time World Rowing Championship medalist.
The accomplished athlete, who has recently become more serious about cycling, also took out the women’s Freycinet Challenge in 2017.
