There’s a big new year party planned for Bellerive Beach- and everyone is invited.
Clarence City Council Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the Bellerive Beach Party on Saturday celebrates a core part of the community’s identity, the incredible beaches.
“From morning walks at Howrah to epic surf sessions at Clifton, our coastline is a source of pride and joy for residents and visitors alike,” Mr Blomeley said, adding that Clarence has 191km of coastline.
“The Bellerive Beach Party is a fantastic way to embrace that beach culture, enjoy some fun in the sun, and bring together the things we love most about summer: family, music, food, and community spirit.”
He said the “quintessentially Clarence” beach party would have something for everyone.
Mr Blomeley said all beaches had now been given a “clean bill of health” ahead of the January 4 party following recent water contamination issues. He said the council was working closely with TasWater and the Department of Health, with officers testing the beaches every day.
“It’s a very disappointing situation to have occurred but we take our responsibility very seriously and will pull out all stops to make sure everything is safe,” Mr Blomeley said.
Bumper crowds are expected at the second edition of the Bellerive Beach Party, with the debut event last year attracting about 2500 people.
The Bellerive Beach party runs from 11am to 7pm, with a program of free, family-friendly activities at the beach including beach games, food and drink vans and sand sculptures.
Entertainment is set with a full day of live music including the Cumbia band La Descarga from Melbourne, who will be leading a massive Comparsa, a Columbian parade featuring live music and dance.
