State Development Department plays lead role in Logan

LOGAN is one of the state’s fastest growing communities and is home to two of the Queensland’s Priority Development Areas at Greater Flagstone and Yarrabilba.

Which is why the Department of State Development is helping lead the delivery of economic development outcomes in the city.

The department, headed by Minister Cameron Dick, has a strong focus on industry, regions,

infrastructure policy, planning and investment prioritisation.

Mr Dick, who is also the Woodridge MP, said the department was delivering a co-ordinated and integrated approach to infrastructure to build industry confidence, generate jobs and economic growth as well as improve liveability in Logan.

The government is providing $2.2 billion over five years, from 2015-16, to build the priority infrastructure needed, much of which will be a fillip for Logan residents.

Mr Dick said the state was also working with industry, such as Villa World, and academia, including Griffith University, to create and drive a smarter infrastructure agenda to gain greater values from Queensland’s assets.

LOGAN A TOP SPOT FOR JOB PROSPECTS

Logan was perfectly placed to become a jobs and light manufacturing powerhouse for the state, according to Mr Dick.

Mr Dick said Logan was crucial to the manufacturing sector, the fifth largest contributor to state’s economy.

“The Logan-Ipswich corridor is Queensland’s manufacturing powerhouse,” he said.

“Logan City is home to a significant number of small-to-medium businesses making a broad array of products feeding into local and national — and, in some cases, international — supply chains.

“Manufacturers are choosing Logan because of the advantages we offer — including ready access to a skilled workforce, and our well-established industrial base.” Mr Dick said he was working to ensure growth in the sector through the state’s $40 million Made in Queensland program.
