LOGAN is on track to recording one of its lowest annual crime rates in 17 years.
Almost six months into 2018, Logan’s crime rate is only 25 per cent of last year’s.
Statistics from the My Police website show that in 2017, the Logan district recorded a total 38,501 offences. So far this year, the region has only recorded 10,000.
Logan District Detective Acting Inspector Scott Furlong is a third generation officer and has almost 20 years experience on the beat.
Det insp Furlong said major statistics like homicides and sex offences have noticeably dropped as a result of better community ties and a shift towards more “flexible and adaptable” policing.
“We have put a lot of effort in building a relationship with the community and proactive taskforce strategies,” he said.
Woodridge MP Cameron Dick said there had been a significant drop in violent crimes in his electorate since the Police Beat relocated from Kingston to Station Road, Logan Central.
Mr Dick said since the move in 2016, assaults and robberies near the station had halved. “It was amazing how that changed the nature of the area,” he said.
“It was a strategy we were testing and it seems to have worked.”
