A DESIRE for a career change led Rebecca Bolton into a role helping other find their dream jobs.
Ms Bolton worked as a marketing manager in South Australia before moving to Cairns in 2008.
With some time to reassess her work life, the 44-year-old was lucky enough to be offered a job as a recruitment consultant with Precruitment’s Cairns office and now manages the business’ North Queensland operations.
“I really enjoy seeing people secure a role of their dreams. There is nothing more satisfying than letting someone know they have successfully secured a job,” Ms Bolton said.
“We also work with great clients and I really enjoy exceeding their expectations. As a manager I also love seeing our team succeed. We have a great team here at Precruitment who all equally contribute to the success of the business.”
With a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, Ms Bolton completed further studies in business.
A love of learning new skills has ensured she always looks at ways of adding to her abilities.
Ms Bolton said recruitment suited people who enjoyed talking to people and had a knack for customer service, team work and attention to detail.
She said much of the work consisted of matching the attributes of talented people to the needs of clients.
With request for job placements coming from industries as diverse as retail, agricultural and education, Ms Bolton said is was difficult to single out one standout event with her job.
“This role offers so much diversity and variety, which is another thing that makes this position so interesting,” she said.
Education
Most recruiters will complete study in human resources before seeking work in the sector. TAFE and universities offer certificates, diplomas and degrees in human resource management or industrial relations. Sometimes traineeships may be available but regardless of whether a potential candidate has tertiary qualifications, a period of on-the-job training is required. Qualifications in marketing are also relevant to this industry.
Further training
Ongoing training and study is required to stay abreast of changes in employment and recruitment law and regulation. Many professionals will go on to complete Masters or specialise in a particular industry. Some recruiters with enough experience may choose to start their own business, or offer consulting services.
Pay scale
The average salary for a recruiter is $59,268. Pay can fluctuate from $39,000 to $90,000 though depending on experience.
