Prime Minister Albanese will headline the inaugural Future Energy forum, which will see leaders debate the issues the nation is confronting as we transition away from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

The News Corp event, on Friday, will be the culmination of a week-long campaign examining Australia’s challenges as we transition to renewables and whether the country can meet the government’s zero emissions targets while keeping the lights on and prices down.

It’s an issue which is important to the hip pockets of Australians and to the future of our nation.

The federal government is committed to meet a legislative emissions reduction target of 43 per cent by 2030, putting pressure on energy generators to accelerate how Australia produces cleaner energy

“It will help open the way for new jobs, new industries, new technologies and a new era of prosperity for Australian manufacturing,” Mr Albanese has said previously of Australia’s path to net zero.

News Corp columnist Joe Hilderbrand will host the event, which will also feature Alinta CEO Jeff Dimery, Tony Wood former head of Origin Energy and now director of energy at think tank the Grattan Institute.

Head of newly renamed Australian Energy producers, Samantha McCulloch, will take part in a panel on energy transformation.

Chief executive of the Australian Energy Council, Sarah McNamara, Craig Stallan from Transgrid and Mark Harland from electric vehicle maker BYD will discuss where we are heading in the sector.

The campaign has shared a glimpse inside how homes will be powered in the future and every aspect of life that will change, from motoring to jobs.

Renewables such as wind and solar will need grid security and we will explore the new mineral and rare earths boom which Australia can exploit to rewire the grid and produce the lithium batteries the world needs.

Offshore wind is increasingly figuring in debates about how, and if, renewable energy sources could provide baseload power given the intermittent nature.

Nuclear energy should not be off limits for debate, and as Australia grows in size the economic case for this emissions-free source of power may also change.

This is an important series given how vital electricity is in powering our increasingly connected homes, businesses, phones, tablets, appliances and the rapidly growing number of electric cars on our roads.

It will investigate the cost of transitioning to alternative sources, as well as the cost implications for our audiences.

Future Energy is proudly supported by Alinta Energy, Leta, Transgrid, CIP, Jemena, SA Government and BYD.
