More than 160 social and affordable homes are being built across Adelaide in three projects, as one of the developments hits a major new milestone.
Leading community housing provider Junction says it will add 63 new homes to its Tonsley development after winning a $65m funding deal. The funding is also expected to support 100 new homes at its other housing projects at St Clair and West Lakes.
It comes as stage one of the Thrive Tonsley building works tops out, delivering 50 homes in a seven-storey apartment project.
It has now reached its highest point of construction, with steel framing works finished.
However, stage two - for which Junction has won $25.6m from the Housing Australia Future Fund will deliver another 63 homes, bringing the cost of Thrive Tonsley to $70m.
Stage one was supported by a $15.2m investment from the federal Social Housing Accelerator Program, which aims to more quickly deliver extra affordable housing.
Junction CEO Maria Palumbo said the Tonesley project, which is set to be finished early next year, would include a community services hub, café and co-working space.
Junction is also set to receive more than $40m for 60 new social and affordable homes within Tide at West and 40 affordable homes at St Clair.
Delivered in partnership with Commercial and General and Peet, respectively, the West and St Clair projects are focused on creating long-term, affordable housing for key workers.
“The partnership between federal and state governments, community housing providers and also, the private sector, is key to addressing the housing crisis now and creating opportunities into the future,” Ms Palumbo said.
