A popular Modbury North walking trail was flooded with waste water on Saturday, contaminating a creek and causing concerns for local wildlife.
The alarm was raised by locals about the sewerage main blockage, which was caused by tree roots near Betalana Ave, on social media.
“The smell is awful as you could imagine,” local Ngarie Kelly posted, alongside several pictures of the murky water.
SA Water crews were able to successfully clear the blockage in the afternoon.
“The overflow – which was reported at 9.25am and caused by the intrusion of large underground tree roots – was contained to a local walking track and the waterway, and there is no impact on local properties,” a spokesman for SA Water said.
The area has been closed while cleaners sanitise it.
