/14SA Little Legend Cooper Gammon just can’t get enough cricket. Described as being ‘cricket obsessed’, last season he played for Golden Grove’s U14s and U16s as well as representing Tea Tree Gully in district cricket, playing in the U14 Whites and U14 Reds sides as well as padding up for the club’s U16s … in all, his commitment totalling three nights of training a week and three matches each weekend! Cooper is still playing cricket during the winter – of the indoor variety with one training session and one game each week. We love your commitment and drive, Cooper! Picture: Supplied.
Revealing this week’s field of Little Legends
Skills, courage and determination are on showcase as we celebrate 13 new Little Legends finalists including a junior cricketer’s incredible 8 for 2 wicket haul.
/14SA Little Legend James Allen, 5 (left), is pictured here with his good friend Hudson Pearks. The young Golden Grove Football Club players recently participated in their first Auskick session. We’re told, both boys have been watching their big brothers play and train in the same team for several years and are thrilled to finally get a chance to pull on their own footy boots and start their football journey together. It is now their big brothers’ turn to be proud: ‘(James and Hudson) had great fun and gave it their all while their big brothers watched on’. Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legend Darcy Johnston, 5, is pictured here at his first Auskick session at Mt Lofty which he loved. We’re told young Darcy wants to “play every ball sport”. Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legends from the Paskeville Netball Club are committed to raising funds for breast cancer research and each year host a ‘Pink Round’ to raise funds and awareness. The players across all grades wear pink socks, bibs, ribbons to mark the match. Well done girls – you look fabulous and it is such a great cause. Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legend Luke Canil, 10, is pictured here in his soccer kit ahead of a game for St Ignatius College. Luke is described as ‘a great team player who encourages all to do their best’. We love to hear this – keep it up and good luck for the season! Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legend Jaxon Witt, 9, is pictured here ready for a game with his Port Noarlunga Cricket Club’s U10s side. He has been nominated for a spectacular passage of play in the most recent season in which he bowled 8 for 2, the remarkable wicket haul including a double hat-trick. Now, that REALLY is spectacular play! Picture: Supplied
/14Little Legend Louis Tessier, 3, has a vision impairment as a result of a brain injury caused by a virus when he was just eight days old. We are told while the adorable youngster has always been fascinated by bikes, he has been too scared to even sit on one. His parents have persisted every weekend for many months and he’s finally now sitting on his bike and recently attempted to ride it. What an achievement! Well done, Loius, it is little wonder your parents are so proud. Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legend Taj Crettenden, 10, is a devoted junior at Cowell Cats Football club. The ‘Junior Colt’ is pictured here during his debut for the ‘Senior Colts’ after he was selected to play an extra game with the older players following his own game. We’re told ‘he got himself into the game and kicked his first goal for Senior Colts with an amazing kick in front of goal that was celebrated by all his teammates’. No doubt it’s a moment the young footballer won’t forget any time soon, and what sport is all about – going that extra mile to help your team and club. Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legend Michala Bolto, 10, is from Blackwood Football Club’s U11s. The young player has been nominated for a 'spectacular passage of play' during a recent game. Michala is described as ‘an exceptional football player (who) just improves every week’. We are told she is also a great team player. Picture: Supplied
/14SA Little Legend Oscar Mayne, 10, from Southern Vales Christian College at Aldinga is pictured here in his soccer kit. We’re told Oscar, who lives with autism, hasn’t previously joined in team sports, feeling he wasn’t good enough, or as fast as the other kids. After years of encouragement from his family, he has joined his school’s soccer team this year, to the delight of his proud parents and friends: “In the lead up to the game he was so nervous and wasn't sure he wanted to play (but) after the whistle went he just blew (us) away … he played his little heart out. He kept up with the game, made some great intercepts, encouraged his teammates when they scored goals and the entire game had the biggest smile on his face. (We are) so incredibly proud of him and can't wait to watch him continue to shine throughout the soccer season.’ What a great story – we hope Oscar’s courage inspires other kids around the state to have a go. Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legend Noah Knowles, 7, is from Solomontown Soccer Club in Port Pirie. We’re told the youngster loves to get out on the field and he gets into the thick of play being ‘one of the first to run to the goals to stop the other team from scoring’. Good luck this season Noah! Picture: Supplied.
/14SA Little Legend Kayden Kirchner, 5, from Steel United Soccer Club at Whyalla. We are told the U6 player has previously struggled with his confidence, spending all but the last few games of last season fighting with himself to overcome his fear of playing in front of large crowds of parents to remain out on the ground. However, as 2021 has rolled around, Kayden has put on a brave face and stepped onto the field with as much confidence as he could muster from the start, kicking two goals for Steel United and playing ‘a real tough game giving the opposition headaches’ in Round 1. His good form has continued with the youngster scoring another goal and ‘really getting stuck in to his second game of the season’, leaving his main supporters ‘so proud’: ‘He is overcoming his fear and enjoying his soccer. He has a great little team and seeing how happy soccer makes him, makes him one little sporting legend … he could have quit but he didn’t, he kept trying and that’s what makes him great!’ We couldn’t agree more. Well don, Kayden. Picture: Supplied
/14SA Little Legend Spencer Deed, 6, from the Park Royal Panthers Hockey Club. Spencer loves all sports and this is his first year trying out hockey. We’re told Spencer is ‘doing so well with his newly-learned skills, while also trying soccer, golf, footy, tennis and tee ball this year.’ Wow, what a busy young sportsman! Picture: Supplied.
