‘We’ve fallen so far’: Andrew Bolt slams Victorian Socialists’ Senate candidate choice

A controversial social media influencer will help launch a new political party in South Australia.

Rental advocate Jordan van den Lamb – who’s hit the headlines for trying to solve the national housing crisis by encouraging the homeless to squat in vacant homes – headed the Victorian Socialists senate ticket at the recent federal election.

Now Mr van den Lamb has announced the political group will be expanding nationwide, including an SA Socialists party which will run at next year’s state election.

Also known as PurplePingers on TikTok and Instagram, Mr van den Lamb said people want change and this will ensure everyone in Australia has the opportunity to “vote socialist” in future elections.

“We won’t win a better, more equal society if our struggles remain isolated and divided,” he said.

“The more of us there are coming together across Australia to fight the rotten status quo of

capitalist politics, the more powerful our movement will become.”

Party spokesman James Plested said they were happy to see the Liberal Party and leader Peter Dutton “smashed” at this month’s election.

“But we know Labor isn’t going to deliver the kind of change Australia desperately needs,” he said.

“For some time, we’ve had people asking when we are going to establish parties on the modelof Victorian Socialists in other parts of Australia. That time has come.”

Also known as the ‘Robin Hood of renters’, Mr van den Lamb has developed a database of houses across Australia that have been vacant for at least two years.

He then connects followers with homes from the database privately, occasionally posting the addresses of the vacant homes on his Instagram account.

It comes after a wild day in politics on Tuesday, with the Greens’ Tammy Franks quitting the party and declaring herself an independent, while the Liberals elected a new leader.
