The man who died in a horror crash in the state’s Mid North has been identified as the father of a young boy just days away from his first birthday.

Debra Haberle took to social media to pay tribute to Jesse Sobey – the man she said she was missing “so much it’s killing me”.

“I love and miss you and so does you’re (sic) baby boy we will meet again my jesse babe,” she wrote on a post about the fatal car rollover at Caltowie in the state’s Mid North.

Police and SA Ambulance crews were called to the single car rollover that occurred on Wilkins Highway, Caltowie, near the Caltowie-Hornsdale roads, just before 10.30am on Monday.

The driver and only occupant of the car, a 43-year-old man from Peterborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Whyalla woman Jean Bateup took to social media and revealed Mr Sobey’s child was set to turn one within days.

“Going to miss you so much I’m glad you thought me of being a mum to you been a pleasure you grew your wings my family go be with family up in the sky,” she said.

Another online user Korina Hunt posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook

“RIP Jesse Sobey my brother how I wish you are hole (sic) again,” she said

“I hope there is no war going on in your head anymore and that you are at peace. I love you and always will xxxx”.

It comes as South Australia Police launch a targeted week-long road safety law enforcement operation.

Operation Danger focuses on dangerous road use offences including following too close, disobeying traffic lights and dangerously changing lanes.

The State Government has released a comprehensive new Road Safety Action Plan to reduce lives lost by 50 per cent and serious injuries by 30 per cent by 2031.
