A man who became unconscious during a police arrest before dying has been remembered in a prayer meeting attended by his grieving widow and two young children.

Gaurav Kundi died on June 13, two weeks after he became unresponsive during an incident with police on Payneham Rd on May 29.

Friends and family gathered in Goodwood on Sunday to pay tribute to the 42-year-old.

Saurabh Kundi told 7News the family was yet to receive his brother’s body, and has been told it could take several more weeks as investigations into his cause of death continue.

“This is an extremely difficult situation for the whole family and we really appreciate that so many people in the community have been supporting us,” he told 9News

“He has two small kids, one is nine years old and one is two years old, which is not easy to tell them what exactly happened.”

Members of the Indian community attended Sunday’s prayer meeting, where Saurabh Kundi said those gathered would “pray for his soul”.

Many members of Mr Kundi’s family attended the service, including his father, who raced to SA from India before his son’s life support was switched off.

At the time of his passing, Mr Kundi’s family said they wanted a “fair investigation”.

“He was really great man, very nice. He was helping almost everyone he knew. A very great person,” brother-in-law Mohit told 9News at the time.

Mr Kundi’s family plan to hold a traditional Hindu funeral when his body is released by the coroner.
