An alleged Aldinga Beach drug dealer with a “history of firearms and trafficking offences” faces a six-month wait in custody before his next court appearance after a police raid at his home.

Merlin Siegfried Daniel Rocznik, 41, appeared in Christies Beach Magistrates Court for the first time on Tuesday afternoon after being arrested when police swooped on his home in Adelaide’s southern suburbs on Monday morning.

Officers allegedly found drugs including GHB, methamphetamine, cannabis, vials of liquid steroid as well as mobile phones and $11,025 in cash.

They also allegedly discovered tasers, an extendable baton and a spud gun.

Mr Rocznik is yet to enter any pleas to two counts of drug trafficking, possessing a prescription drug, possessing a firearm without a licence and three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.

A police prosecutor told Magistrate Briony Kennewell they were seeking a 12-month adjournment for charge determination due to “the estimated time” for an “e-crime” report, bail was opposed because of the seriousness of the allegations.

However counsel for Mr Rocznik applied for home detention bail, submitting the prosecution’s proposal meant a “significant period” for her client.

“It’s too long a period for Mr Rocznik to be serving in custody awaiting simply a determination of the charges,” she said.

“Whilst I accept these charges are serious, certainly there is work that still needs to be done to establish them.

“There’s nothing to suggest from Mr Rocznik’s prior history that he wouldn’t comply with a bail agreement – there’s nothing to suggest he doesn’t consider court orders to be important.

“I perhaps wouldn’t oppose a period of six months (adjournment) to meet in the middle. In my submission, that’s still a long period.”

Ms Kennewell ordered a home detention report for Mr Rocznik and set a charge determination date in the Adelaide Magistrates Court for May next year.

He was remanded in custody and will return to court next week.
