Electric Fields records cover of Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly classic

SA electronic music duo Electric Fields has released its cover of a Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly classic – with and added appearance by the Aboriginal activist who inspired the song.

On what should have been the eve of the Freedom Day Festival, SA electronic music duo Electric Fields has released its cover of Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly’s classic song From Little Things Big Things Grow.

Zaachariaha Fielding and Michael Ross have added vocal samples of the late Aboriginal activist Vincent Lingiari, whose story inspired the original song.

“This song is as relevant now as it was when it was first written, and Zaachariaha and I were able to find a new angle to express the story through Kev and Paul’s songwriting,” keyboard player Ross says.

Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody perform their original version of From Big Things Little Things Grow.

Zaachariaha also sings part of the lyrics in the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara languages.

The song is on an updated version of the Kev Carmody tribute album Cannot Buy My Soul, which also features new recordings from Courtney Barnett, Kasey Chambers and Jimmy Barnes, Kate Miller-Heidke and Archie Roach.
