Axe-wielding duo arrested after western suburbs robberies, while third suspect on the run

Three allegedly armed men threatened service station staff in two separate robberies in the western suburbs on Thursday morning.

The trio allegedly entered a service station on South Rd, West Croydon, armed with an axe at 1.10am and demanded cash from the worker before fleeing with the money.

Police allege the same trio then entered a service station on South Rd, Angle Park, at 1.40am and threatened the staff member with an axe and stole cash from the till.

The trio made off in a Suzuki hatchback.

At 1.55am patrols spotted the Suzuki driving on South Rd, West Hindmarsh, and called in PolAir to help. The car was then followed to West Lakes Boulevard where two men were arrested without incident.

Officers are still hunting for the third suspect.

Police searched the vehicle and allegedly found the axe and an amount of cash.

Two 18-year-old men from Davoren Park and of no fixed address have been charged with two counts of robbery and will appear before the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

It comes as a pair of men were spotted in the front yard of a house acting suspiciously, each with weapons and balaclavas.

Just after 2.30am on Thursday, police were called to The Boulevard, Parafield Gardens, after reports of two men in the front yard of a house acting suspiciously.

Police allege they then saw two men wearing balaclavas walking away from the house towards Field St.

The men were searched, and one was allegedly found to be in possession of an axe, the other a hammer.

A 29-year-old man from no fixed place, and a 40-year-old man from Mansfield Park were arrested.

Both men were charged with being unlawfully on premises, carrying an offensive weapon and carrying an article of disguise.

They have been refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
