When project manager Jade Jensen was perfectly planning her March wedding to her lover of six years Heath Batten, she never imagined the series of unfortunate events that would ensue.
“We can just laugh at it all now,” the 27-year-old told The Advertiser.
She even posted a video detailing her big day to TikTok which has garnered over two million views.
The morning of the Henley Beach woman’s 80-guest wedding, she was getting ready with friends, opening up a bottle of bubbles when the cork escaped her hands.
“I was holding it but obviously not hard enough and it hit me just above my eye on my forehead,” Ms Jensen, who was a former paramedic, said.
She rushed to get an icepack and friends encouraged her to get some ibuprofen for the inflammation.
“I was more worried about having an egghead because that’s a lot harder to photoshop,” she said.
Eventually, Ms Jensen went to her medicine cabinet and grabbed what she believed was Nurofen.
After taking two pills, she eventually learnt what she had swallowed were strong sleeping pills.
“I started to cry, I was like, ‘what have I done?’,” she said.
“The thought of falling asleep down the aisle … I had a little cry and then I went to the bathroom and attempted to throw them up.”
Ms Jensen said loved ones were soothing her and she drank an energy drink, while continuing to get ready for her nuptials.
Eventually she had to leave for the venue — a friend’s farm in Meadows.
“I probably started to feel drowsy about 15 minutes before we arrived,” she said.
“I was like, oh no, I don’t want to don’t asleep … I had a bit more caffeine and when we rocked up, I started to get really nervous and the adrenaline kicked in.”
When walking down the aisle, the couple’s dog, a Kelpie called Sassy, stood and ripped out Ms Jensen’s three-metre veil.
“That’s just her, so typical to cause chaos,” Ms Jensen said.
“We got down to the end of the aisle and it was really beautiful, my legs were shaking and I thought, this is so exciting, we’ve been planning this for so long, we’d just finished our vows … she (Sassy) decided to take a number two, literally in eye shot of everyone, right next to us.
“I’ve got so many HD photos of her taking a number two at our wedding.”
Calling the day “unforgettable”, Ms Jensen said, despite the mishaps her wedding was still “the most perfect day”.
Mr Batten proposed to his soulmate a year ago on his family’s property in Teal Flat near Mannum.
“He had the ring zip tied to our Kelpie’s collar,” Ms Jensen said.
“It was beautiful, very him.”
Ms Jensen and Mr Batten met on Tinder six years ago, while the pair were living in Townsville.
Mr Batten was there working for the Army, while Ms Jensen was a paramedic at the time.
“He got me with some snappy one line and the rest is history,” Ms Jensen said.
The lovebirds bonded over four-wheel driving and boating and since, the pair have travelled across most of Australia together.
On her wedding day, Ms Jensen wore a Hera Couture ceremony dress and Fanci Club reception dress, with Prada shoes and Vivienne Westwood jewellery.
Her makeup was done by Izzy Carapetis and her hair was done by Styled by Melanie.
