Police confirmed the 57-year-old man from the western suburbs was arrested on November 3 and charged.

In a letter obtained by The Advertiser, dated November 22, a western suburbs school informed parents of the incident, stating “a former temporary relief teacher who has worked at our school was arrested and charged with indecent assault against a child”.

“The information available to the school at this time suggests that there is no need for any concern for children at our school as the incident did not involve a child who attends our school.”

A Department of Education spokesperson said schools were required to inform parents anytime allegations of sexual misconduct were made against any person who has worked in any capacity at a school.

“A letter has been provided to parents and caregivers at a number of schools in accordance with that policy,” they said.

“The staff member is prevented from attending any school or engaging in child-related work.

The man was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on December 18.
