The site of a new $155m high school in Adelaide’s northern suburbs has been revealed, as the state government prepares for massive population growth in the area.

Premier Peter Malinauskas announced on Tuesday that the new public school would be built on 10ha of land on the corner of Andrews and Petherton roads in Eyre.

Construction on the $155.3m campus will begin later this year and be complete in 2028.

Surrounded by the suburbs of Davoren Park, Andrews Farm, Penfield and Edinburgh North, the year 7 to 12 school will have a capacity of 1300 students.

The state government’s Greater Adelaide Regional Plan, released this week, forecasts 82,000 new homes will be built in Adelaide’s outer north over the next 30 years.

“We know the north of Adelaide is growing strongly now and will continue to do so well into the future,” Mr Malinauskas said.

“This school is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to deliver high quality educational facilities for our children now and into the future.”

Education Minister Blair Boyer said the announcement came on top of a $15m commitment to Virginia Primary School and Preschool “to address capacity pressures and ensure the buildings support modern learning for the growing community”.

It also follows announcements for a $62.7m preschool and primary school in Mt Barker, providing an additional 400 total places.

These campuses are also expected to open in 2028.

Planning Minister Nick Champion said the government was planning future developments “to ensure we have the appropriate spaces for community infrastructure such as transport, education and health – and ensure they are designed in a strategic way that complements the local neighbourhoods”.
