Smoke alarm forces Qantas flight between Sydney and Port Macquarie to turn around

A Qantas flight had to make a quick return to Sydney airport after an alarm sparked a mid-flight scare.

A Qantas flight was forced to return to Sydney Airport after a scare mid-flight triggered a precautionary response from the crew.

Flight QF2160 departed Sydney just before 9am on Friday en route to Port Macquarie.

But it was forced to turn around over Sydney’s Northern Beaches, according to flight tracking data from Flightradar24.

It is understood the decision to turn the plane around was prompted by the activation of a smoke alarm on-board.

No fire or smoke was present and the plane landed safely at Sydney airport about 30 minutes after takeoff.

The flight was diverted as a standard safety procedure.

All passengers have since been re-accommodated.
