THE grieving widow of shooting murder victim Gary Allibon has pleaded for his killers to “have a conscience”, as the state’s coroner recommended the investigation into her husband’s slaying be handed to the unsolved homicide squad.

Monica Allibon told the coronial inquest into the cowardly 2010 murder of her armoured guard husband she “did not feel any different today than I did (the day he died).”

Mr Allibon, a Chubb security guard for 12 years, had given four armed men the money he was carrying and his hands were in the air when he was shot in the back just before sun-up on June 7, 2010.

The cold-blooded killers rolled Mr Allibon over into his back and took his gun before leaving the family man to die on the steps of a Sussex St building complex in Haymarket.

Mr Allibon was just eight months away from retirement when he was gunned down.

Detectives from the robbery and serious crime squad investigating the shooting previously told media they believe an Audi S8 sedan used in the shooting was also used in the non-fatal shooting of a man in Wentworthville in April, 2009.

The court heard that detectives investigating the murder had exhausted almost all leads but were following a “minor” line of inquiry in relation to the Audi.

State Deputy Coroner Magistrate Berry, after reviewing a brief of evidence, said she would not make any findings on it, or make any comments on the evidence, but made a recommendation that the investigation be handed to the unsolved homicide squad.

Outside the court, an emotional Mrs Allibon spoke of her continued heartbreak at the loss of her husband.

“It’s been five years, four months and three days, I know the police have done everything they can up until now and I know it will be ongoing… these guys are walking around and I just live in hope they will be caught,” she said.

Mrs Allibon said she lives in hope her husband’s killers will be caught.

“I wake up with a gut-wrenching feeling everyday, I try to continue with my life, I say good morning and good night to Gary every day still, even after this time and I tell him that I love him.

“I said to him this morning when I was looking at his photo, one day somebody is going to come to justice for what they’ve done to you and how it’s taken a chunk out of my life.”

Mrs Allibon describe her husband’s murder as “heinous, heinous cowardly” and pleaded for anyone with information to contact police.

“It won’t change my life too much but at least justice needs to be served for one of the heinous, heinous cowardly crimes.. to shoot somebody in the back,” she said, fighting back tears.

“Have a conscious and try and help somebody else, not just me, Gary needs to be rewarded for what he went through for no reason… a good person died for no reason, he wasn’t a threat to anybody at any time,” she said.

A reward of $100,000 remains for information that leads to solving the murder. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
