ALMOST 11kg of the deadly drug ice, with a potential street value of $11m, has been stopped from reaching Ceduna in a massive win for South Australian Police.
Acting on information from Western Australia Police and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), Yalata officers stopped a vehicle travelling to Ceduna about 5.30pm Saturday and uncovered the huge haul of methamphetamine.
The two men inside the vehicle — both from New South Wales — were arrested and charged with possessing a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
The pair, a 29-year-old from West Ryde and a 29-year-old man from Homebush, have been denied bail.
Officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Branch have travelled to Ceduna to assist with the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Crameri, Officer in Charge of Serious and Organised Crime Branch, praised the interstate teamwork that led to the major bust.
“We have achieved this significant outcome as a direct result of knowledge shared by Western Australia Police Force, via the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission,” he said.
“This seizure serves to highlight the outstanding results we can achieve given a tactical, co-ordinated multi-agency response to the scourge of illicit drugs, particularly Ice, on our streets.
“It is timely to remind the community that any person seeking to traffic illicit drugs can face penalties up to $500,000, and/or life imprisonment.”
The seizure is directly linked to strategies implemented under the National Law Enforcement Methylamphetamine Strategy.
