A Royal couple and an English rugby player-turned-DJ have touched down in Brisbane, quietly making the most of the city in the days leading up to Saturday night’s big-ticket clash between the Wallabies and British & Irish Lions.
As verified by sources, King Charles III’s niece Zara Tindall and her husband Mike were spotted having drinks with English rugby star James Haskell and friends at Mr Percival’s on Tuesday night.
The royal couple and rugby star landed in Brisbane separately, with minimal fanfare, ahead of the first Test on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium.
The Tindalls had earlier been spotted at the stadium for State of Origin game III in Sydney, with the couple taking to Instagram to show themselves sporting some Maroons merch.
Haskell got behind the decks at Cloudland in Fortitude Valley for a surprise DJ gig, where he confirmed he and the royals were staying in the Queensland capital ahead of the match.
“I was picked up from the airport, driven straight to the hotel. I got straight onto a podcast, went for dinner, and then next day, we’re doing more stuff”, Haskell told The Courier-Mail.
“It’s been non-stop. Today we did a tour with the (sport function) Lions Den, so all three of us were there. (Mike and I) both will be at the game. Then we fly to Melbourne on Saturday.”
The former Wasps RFC and Northampton Saints rugby star is publicly known to be good friends with the royal couple.
Haskell, who’s set to release his own music label near the end of 2025, performed the 90-minute set to promote his latest single Perfect Sound.
“I‘ve ben DJ’ing for the last 11 years … I love playing,” Haskell said.
“When I was playing rugby, I really used music as a tool to motivate myself, to use it to get into different right head space.
“I used to go to Ibiza in my off-season.
“I’m a massive show off. I’m a performer … so DJ’ing was a perfect replacement for rugby.”
Ahead of the first in the highly anticipated three-Test series, Haskell and fellow former England international Tindall hosted their latest episode of sport podcast The Good The Bad And The Rugby on the roof of a Brisbane city building.
Magic Millions ambassador, British royal and Olympic equestrian rider, Mrs Tindall is known to have called Australia as her “home away from home.”
