If you’re looking for a bit of last minute advice on how to stop yourself from feeling nauseous on some of the Royal Darwin Show’s rides, its chief executive Cherry Court has some generous words of wisdom.
“You don’t go on them,” she joked.
“But I guess you don’t know until you go on it how it’s going to affect you.”
The Royal Darwin Show turns 74 this year, with the Darwin Showgrounds springing into 72 hours of entertainment and activities for everyone to enjoy from Thursday.
A new ride known as the Aviator – an aerial swing ride that lifts you up, out and around as the tower rotates high above the crowd – will make its Darwin debut.
Other fan favourites including the Sling Shot, No Limit, Route 66 Dodgem Track, the Music Trip, Teacups and more will also return.
The beloved Celebrity Baking Challenge will kick off at 11am Friday, and showgoers are invited to The Annex to watch the competition and sample the cakes after official judging.
In terms of other activities, Ms Court drew attention to the agricultural shows, which will put on display the best of Territory cattle, small livestock and poultry, diverse cat breeds, dog events including agility and obedience and the baby animals’ nursery,
Showgoers would even have the chance to meet birds, native animals and snakes in Aviculture Hall.
“There’s always new things, and we’ve always had new entertainment,” Ms Court said.
On Wedesday afternoon, Ms Court gave her final words of advice.
“Go online and buy a ticket, it’ll make your life easier,” she said.
“Plan your day, because there are a lot of things happening all through the show; so to get the best out of the experience I tell people to plan what you’re going to do.”
The Royal Darwin Show will run from Thursday, July 24, to Saturday, July 26.
